Did you remember to set your clocks back?

October 30th, 2006

Things I learned from the NFL while watching the Bengals v. Falcons this weekend:

1. Catches when your feet are out of bounds count (when you’re a Falcon).
2. You’re not allowed to sack a quarterback (that isn’t named Carson Palmer).
3. Blocks below the knees are perfectly legal (when it’s done to a Bengal).
4. Holding is fine (when it’s done to a Bengal).

But hey….at least the Steelers lost. Which is worse, Ben….being removed from a game because of an injury, or because you suck? :P

Anyhoo….we had a fun LOST party on Friday, and we even had some costumes! My friends came dressed up as Rosseau and the Black Smoke, and they brought friends who dressed up as Desmond and the Polar Bear while I dressed as Kate. I will have to get some of the pictures up here soon. :) The best part, however, is that I converted some new people to the show, lol.

Is Bush preparing his coup when 2008 comes around and we force him to get out? - Bush moves toward Martial Law (the relevant part is Sec. 1076 about 3/4 of the way down the page)

“In a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law. It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President’s ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.”

“Vice President Cheney said yesterday that he was not referring to an interrogation technique known as ‘waterboarding’ when he told an interviewer this week that dunking terrorism suspects in water was a ‘no-brainer.’” Read the transcript and judge for yourself.

Mba’s House: The Bush Administration is renting their embassy property from a known torturer…and I am not talking about Cheney or Rumsfeld.

54 percent of Americans think the economy is getting worse. Friday, the Commerce Department reported that “U.S. economic growth slowed during the summer to its lowest growth rate in three years” — 1.6 percent — “amid a slump in the housing sector.”

The conservative response? Blame the media.

Now that the facts of Michael J Fox’s medication have finally gotten through the massive amount of blubber around Rush Limbaugh’s fat head, he’s apologized for his past criticism and has since altered his story to blame Fox for taking the medication in the first place and causing the shakes “to gain sympathy.”

It just goes to show that when it comes to reality, hope and humanity, nothing can move the Blob.

Speaking of medication, it looks like Bush either forgot his or is in need of some…because while stumping for Jeff Lamberti Bush had a rather unnerving compulsion to call Mr. Lamberti “Dave.” Repeatedly.

While the US may be run by idiots who don’t care about the planet, the UK has seen the light and has hired Al Gore as their Environmental Adviser in hopes of providing the kind of environmental role model that the US so desperately needs.

And finally…

Your moment of Zen

(This image from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and provided Thursday Oct. 26, 2006 shows the scattered remains of an exploded star named Cassiopeia A. Spitzer’s infrared detectors ‘picked’ through these remains and found that much of the star’s original layering had been preserved. In this false-color image, the faint, blue glow surrounding the dead star is material that was energized by a shock wave, called the forward shock, which was created when the star blew up. The forward shock is now located at the outer edge of the blue glow. Stars are also seen in blue. Green, yellow and red primarily represent material that was ejected in the explosion and heated by a slower shock wave, called the reverse shock wave.)
