News of the Day 10/09/06

October 9th, 2006

If Tyranny and Oppresion come to this land, it will be in the guise of fightning a foreign enemy.

-James Madison

They figured this out 200 years ago….yet there are still 36% of Americans who just don’t get it.

Will Foley End the Republican Revolution?

GOP Rep. admits he saw Foley’s messages to underage pages 6 years ago…yet still the GOP did nothing. Let’s see…six years ago…that would be when Bush came into office, wouldn’t it?

“DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel was scheduled to debate RCCC Chairman Thomas Reynolds on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Entangled in the Foley page scandal himself, Reynolds ducked the debate, sending Rep. Adam Putnam in his stead.

Emanuel gives a nearly perfect performance. He easily dispels Putnam’s attempts to blames the Democrats for the scandal. In the end, Putnam’s attacks appear desperate and hollow.”

North Korea Says Nuclear Test Successful

“While the Bush Administration has taken an increasingly aggressive stance against Iran and their belief that Iran is developing nuclear weapon technology  (which is at odds with not only Iran’s statements , but our own intelligence reports, granted, not without some question as to its veracity), they have said little to nothing over North Korea’s (remember the other Axis of Evil country?) open and unapologetic pursuit of a nuclear weapons program.”

Huh…not only is Senator George Allen an apparent racist, but he also has been “Fristed” over his undeclared stock options.

Investigations show that FEMA spent millions on puppet shows, bingo and yoga in order to “counsel people who might have been mentally effected by the hurricanes.” Here’s an idea…how about helping the people who have been physically effected by the hurricanes (i.e. have no homes)?

Bob Woodward, author of the best-selling State of Denial, appeared on Meet the Press to talk about the book and the White House’s reaction to it. Woodward shot down every talking point the administration has put out in an attempt to obfuscate his core message: that we are not being told the entire truth about the Iraq War. Woodward also tells Russert another fascinating nugget of information: Vice-President Cheney cursed him out over the information he revealed about the White House mettings with Henry Kissinger and hung up on him.”

Speaking of Woodward’s book…there’s a little section in there that definitely makes you wonder about the 2004 elections in Ohio even more than usual.

It’s election time, so you know it’s time to pull the fear card. Only this time, Cheney is “pulling it out” behind closed doors.

The Newsweek poll released yesterday showing Bush’s approval at a record-low 33 percent also demonstrates a “larger loss of faith” in government leadership across the board. Here are some of the other highlights:

– 52 percent of Americans believe the Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert covered up Mark Foley’s actions

– For the first time ever in a Newsweek poll, a majority of Americans (58 percent) now believe the Bush administration knowingly misled the American people in building its case for war against Saddam Hussein

– 53 percent believe it was a mistake to go to war at all, the first time the Newsweek poll has registered a majority in that camp.

– Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s approval rating has fallen to just 30 percent, and more Americans believe he should resign than remain, 48 percent vs. 37 percent

God damn…eat a sandwich already! I mean come on! Ewww!

And finally…some moments of Zen:
